How the runoff works

There is a runoff for president and for governor when no candidate gets more than 50% of valid votes, which do not count blank and null votes. The top two go back to the polls, and whoever has more valid votes wins.

Voting was on October 25, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Brasília time. All eligible voters could vote, even those who did not vote in the 1st round, including Brazilians abroad, who vote only for president.

In states without a runoff for governor, voters vote only for president. The Senate, the Chamber and state legislative assemblies have no runoff: those elected come out of the 1st round.
